As we move into decades of performing as improvising musicians we acquire long term musical relationships based on a myriad of criteria. Tim and I met in the early 80's and have continued to collaborate while cultivating wide ranging experiences performing with a wondrous assemblage of creative characters and mentors. Tim was the impetus for my first recording as a composer/leader by simply suggesting that we go into the studio after hours with my working quartet instead of waiting for a record label to offer me a date. Recently he was the person who inadvertently inspired me to release a solo bass album that I recorded twenty years ago. So, when he and Sara Humphries came up for a weekend of relaxation and culinary delights with Claudia Barritt and myself, I agreed that he should bring his horn. In the midst of hanging out we fit in two short sessions of playing which resulted in this musical offering, Blood From A Stone.

I remember seeing Bloodcount play at Leeds Irish Centre about this time…the band very nearly outnumbered the audience… but it was one of the best gigs (out of very many) I ever saw and the band were terrific…on fire…25 years ago!!
